Fairy Tale Illustrations
Over the past week, I’ve been listening to Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm fairy tales through some podcasts on iTunes.
I’m captivated by the imagination of these storytellers, and have been compelled to begin some illustrations based on some of their stories.
I began this week by drawing two illustrations based on Andersen’s “Thumbelina.” With these illustrations I’m venturing into a fairly new style of digital drawing and painting that mimics brush pen lines and somewhat of a watercolor wash.
This new style is a departure from the cell shaded way of drawing and coloring that I’m used to working in, but I’m really liking this new direction.
I’ve always been one for trying out different styles of drawing and painting (something that was pressed into my workflow through college), but this more “painterly” direction is one that I would like to improve on and use more in the future.
